May 2026 – Volunteer with FIG

Each month, our team participates in a different volunteer opportunity, and it continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. In honor of Earth Day 2026, our team recently spent the morning picking up trash at Woodland Park and Nature Preserve and last September we helped build new trails along the bayou. It’s been a privilege to keep this green space clean.

FIG has also served at the HIM Food Pantry and the Houston Welcomes Refugees warehouse, both supporting neighbors in our own community. We love being part of a city that shows up for one another, and we’re always looking for new ways to get involved.

If you’d like to join us for our next volunteer outing or if you have a cause you’re passionate about, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s continue building a stronger Houston, together!

Here’s What I Think Is Worth Reading:

• Houston continues to the lead the nation in population growth per the 2025 census and we are close to breaking the 8 million mark! That explains a lot about our traffic situation.
• Good news for our fellow Heights residents… Escalante’s is moving into the historic Swift Building along the hike and bike trail and is expected to open at the end of this year.
• There is an insane home that just hit the market, listed for $65 million, in Hunter’s Creek. Check out the amazing photos.
• And gulp! The 2026-27 list of Houston’s most expensive private schools is officially out.
• The Astrodome is being considered for national landmark designation. Originally built in 1965, it was once nicknamed the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” What do you think? Is it worthy of being recognized as significant to American history and innovation?
• The Houston Food Bank is currently raising funds to build a new facility in northwest Houston. They are an incredible organization and last year alone, distributed 168 million pounds of food!
• A 3D printed community is going up along the Gulf Coast, using light weight concrete which is supposedly stronger and cheaper than lumber and drywall.

And last but not least…

Happy Birthday! FIG Broker Michael and his family recently celebrated his daughter Georgia’s first birthday! FIG employees—and proud “Aunties” Sarah and Ellen—were there with their families to join in the celebration. We were so happy to share in such a special occasion and can’t wait to see what’s next for sweet Georgia!

Haley & John McCary – Clients Haley and John were recently married and bought a new home with FIG’s help. We’re happy to report that they’ve just added a new fur baby to the family, Barton. He is the sweetest Springer Spaniel, cleverly named after Barton Springs in Austin. Congratulations to the growing family!
