Volunteer with FIG Real Estate

FIG loves Houston and its surrounding areas. So we try to do what we can to make it a better place to live and work. Each month we participate in a different volunteer opportunity and would love for you to JOIN US!

On September 20th, FIG will head to Woodland Park in the Heights, the second-oldest park in Houston. Now a nature preserve, Woodland Park was first opened in 1903 by the Houston Electric Company as a destination park to encourage weekend ridership on the local trolley. It was also home to Houston’s first zoological collection beginning with a pair of ostriches paid for by penny donations from school children!

Saturday, 9/20, at 9:00 am, we will meet to clear trails, rid the park of debris that has accumulated over the summer and refresh the butterfly and firefly gardens. Join us and get a free FIG t-shirt!

If you would like to participate or if you have any volunteer ideas you think we should sign up for, please let us know! Contact us at info@figtx.com

Don’t Fall For Clickbait!

Here’s What I Think Is Worth Reading:

One of Houston’s oldest buildings is getting converted into apartments, the Heights Clock Tower. In 1894 it was originally built as a textile mill and to this day, several old geezers (sorry, “passionate time keepers”) tinker with the clock to keep it running!
The construction at Memorial Park, mentioned in the last newsletter, has begun and they found a WWI era bomb! Fun Fact: my grandfather trained at Camp Logan before he went to France. He lied about his age in order to enlist at 17, and was a motorcycle messenger taking intel to and from the front lines.
Another office building in Downtown Houston is being transformed into apartments. I think more residential real estate in Downtown would be awesome.
Usually I’m a huge defender of parks but I think the expansion of Ben Taub Hospital that will require taking 9 acres away from Hermann Park is a good thing.
A 3D printed affordable housing community is coming to Houston. Who wants to pretend to be my client so we can check it out?!
In another example of Houston continuing to become the best city in America… Foxconn invests $450M in Houston and plans to train a new generation of tech-oriented manufacturing workers to support AI hardware. I’ll hope for the best until AI takes over.

And last but not least…

FIG Family Updates

As we mentioned, you’re one of us now. And we love to celebrate all the good news and events that are happening in the lives of the extended FIG Family!

Please email info@figtx.com and let us know what’s going on with you!

Big congratulations to our very own Agent Sarah and her husband, Clint Hightower, on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Penny! She made her debut on August 7th, weighing exactly 8 lbs, and kept everyone waiting until she was (lovingly) persuaded with an induction. The whole family is home, happy, and soaking in every sweet newborn moment. We love you Penny!

Babies, babies, everywhere! Congratulations to former clients, Jamie and Blair Wilson, on their new baby girl, Scarlett! “Scottie” was born on July 27th and also weighed in at 8 lbs! Says Mom, “We are so in love with our sweet girl and have been enjoying all of the newborn snuggles.” The FIG Family just keeps growing and we are loving it! So happy for you all!
